DETROIT — On Monday, Detroit Police found 31-year-old Charmenek Johnson dead in a Detroit home, along with her eight-month-old child, who was found alive.
The hungry infant was found inside a crib and was taken to Children’s Hospital. Authorities say the infant was left near the dead body for days and is fighting for her life.
A spokeswoman for Detroit Police said the child was taken to Children’s Hospital for observation to make sure she wasn’t dehydrated and didn’t have any other health issues.
Johnson suffered trauma to the head. An arrest was made in connection to the case, and Johnson’s boyfriend is being held in police custody. Johnson’s friends and family say she loved her child deeply.
Johnson’s mother made the discovery when she went to visit her daughter at her home after not hearing from her since Thursday, April 17.
