DEARBORN—Hussein Berry, a longtime community activist and president of the Dearborn Board of Education, announced this week that he is running for State Representative in Michigan’s 9th House District. Berry is also chair of the Henry Ford College Board of Trustees. 

“I am ready and willing to serve my community at the next level as a public servant… It would be my honor to serve you in Lansing,” Berry said in a Facebook post. The district consists of parts of Detroit and Dearborn. 

Democratic State Representative Harvey Santana, who currently represents the 9th House District, is also running for reelection. Santana is currently serving his second term on the Michigan House of Representatives. In 2012, Berry challenged Santana for the same seat in the district but was unsuccessful in his bid.
