TAYLOR — Nicholas Spirdione, 23, pled not guilty to charges of torture, child abuse and assault in connection to the beating of his six-month-old baby Tuesday in Taylor, where he was arraigned.
The infant suffered injuries to the head and had to undergo multiple surgeries. He is still in critical condition at the hospital. In court, Spirdione apologized for beating his son. He apologized and cried several times.
Spirdione’s girlfriend, who is the baby’s mother, says she knew something was wrong when she was asleep and her boyfriend approached her about feeding the child.
The woman says she never heard any of the cries because she was sleeping after using a sleep aid. When paramedics arrived, the child was having trouble breathing and staying conscious. Spirdione, who is an EMT, was arrested the day of the incident. He is being held on a $1.5 million cash bond.
