DEARBORN—Aisha Mohamed, a 20-year-old University of Michigan-Dearborn (UMD) student, will be interning at The Arab American News this summer.
Mohamed is completing her undergraduate studies at UMD, and she will enter her senior year this fall. She is majoring in journalism and is very passionate about pursuing a career in the profession.
Mohamed, a Yemeni American who lives in Dearborn, is interested in both print and broadcast journalism, and she hopes to become a television host someday.
“I have a real passion for the news. I love reading and watching it. I feel like there are so many misconceptions about Arab and Muslim Americans and hope to help clear up the negative image of them in the media as a reporter,” Mohamed said. Since starting her internship this month, Mohamed has written an article about a Dearborn bodybuilder who took first place in a regional showdown.
She has also come up with her own story ideas, including a feature article on henna tattoo art flourishing in the community that was published in this week’s issue.
