DEARBORN — On Tuesday, May 13, a young Dearborn man received a five-year minimum prison sentence for shooting a relative in the city’s south end at an apartment building.
The victim was shot in the neck, but he has recovered after being hospitalized. The relative was 60 years old, and the incident occurred in February. Qais Mohammed Ahmed Salem, 27, was sentenced in in Wayne County Circuit Court to three to 10 years for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and two years for felony use of a firearm.
In April, Salem pleaded guilty to both charges. Salem’s attorney said the victim had initially pulled a knife on his client, which prompted Salem to use the gun. Salem’s four children and his wife live in Yemen. He is a resident in Michigan for work purposes.
