DETROIT—Woodward Academy’s MIRROR After School Program, located in downtown Detroit, is collaborating with the National Arab Orchestra’s (N.A.O) Building Bridges Through Music.
The fourth through eighth grade students will be performing with the N.A.O at its third annual gala concert May 31 at 8 p.m. The event will take place at the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts (DMHC) located at 350 Madison St. in Detroit.
Building Bridge’s Through Music is a program sponsored by the N.A.O. designed to promote culture and diversity in Detroit schools through music.
Woodward Academy’s students have been working with Michael Ibrahim, director of the N.A.O. and musician Maggie Hasspacher since November and are excited to perform.
They will continue rehearsals every Monday leading up to the event. The program teaches students basic music education, exposes them to a different language and culture, and is giving them an opportunity to sing with professionals on stage at the DMHC.
