DEARBORN — More than 200 people attended a fundraiser for Rashid Baydoun, a democrat who is seeking the position of state representative in the 11th House District. The district consists of portions of Dearborn Heights, Livonia, Westland and all of Inkster and Garden City.
Incumbent State Representative David Knezek, who is running for State Senate in the 5th District, introduced Baydoun and praised his work as a community activist over the years.
Several local leaders attended the rally, including Susan Dabaja, president of the Dearborn City Council, and 19th District Court Judge, Sam Salamey.
Baydoun said Michigan needs to invest in better roads, bridges and schools; and that in order for the state to attract business, it needs to have a highly-skilled workforce.
“I am running for state representative because I want my nieces and nephews to continue to reap the benefits of a quality public education without experiencing any more cuts,” Baydoun said.
The primary elections take place Aug. 5.
