DEARBORN—The Arab American Political Action Committee will host a Wayne County executive candidates forum, Tuesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. at the Lebanese American Heritage Club, 4337 Maple St. |
The forum is an opportunity for business and community leaders, residents and interested parties to meet the candidates and learn their views on a wide range of topics.
Five candidates for county executive — Phil Cavanagh, Warren Evans, Robert Ficano, Kevin McNamara, and William Wild — have been invited and have agreed to participate in the forum.
“The purpose of this forum is to give candidates for county executive an opportunity to address policy issues vital to our county’s future,” said AAPAC President Ali Hammoud. “These issues involve a range of crucial matters that include economic development, financial and fiscal stability, streets and drainage, parks and playgrounds, and public health and safety. It’s our goal as an organization to provide the public with as much information as possible in order for them to make informed decisions on issues critical to their daily lives. What better way to do so than to have an open forum where we can discuss these issues with those who could potentially represent us.”
The moderators will be Wayne County Prosecutor Mariam Bazzi and Wayne County Corporation Counsel Zenna Elhasan. Both are also members of AAPAC and will ask each candidate the same opening question, followed by a series of questions from community members.
AAPAC was formed by a group of Arab American professionals to organize and encourage the political activities of Arab Americans. AAPAC is non-partisan and independent from any other existing organization or interest group. Its primary concern is the Arab American Community as a whole, regardless of the personal interests of any individual or group of individuals.
