LANSING — According to published reports, Gov. Snyder is outspending his opponent, former representative Mark Schauer in his re-election efforts.
Snyder has raised $3.3 million, compared to the $1.8 million raised by Schauer. In addition, most of the governor’s contributions come from individuals (the Michigan Republican Party gave him $38,241), while Schauer’s come from individuals and political action committees (PACs).
The governor also has more than $4.6 million in cash, while Schauer has $2.5 million. The democratic challenger has also received some $990,000 in public financing and spent about $1.3 million.
Snyder has received $6,800 from more than 70 people. That figure is the new maximum contribution limit, as of last year.
Donor’s to Schauer’s campaign include the Michigan Education Association ($61,000); the UAW ($34,000); the Michigan Association of Justice ($34,000); and the Michigan Laborers PAC ($68,000).
Schauer could also receive $1,125,000 in public financing if he spends less than $2 million during the general election campaign. He received $953,000 because he spent less than $2 million during the primary campaign.
Locally, in the 4th Senate District, incumbent Virgil Smith is facing a primary challenge from State Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Smith has raised $79,643, while Tlaib has raised $120,145. Individuals provided most of her contributions, while $59,000 of Smith’s funds came from PACs.
Smith has $21,620 in cash, while Tlaib has $28,752.
