DETROIT — United Airlines will lay off more than 100 workers this October at Detroit Metro Airport. The positions that will be mainly affected are service representatives and ramp service workers.
Jobs will be transferred to an outside vendor, the name of which is still unknown. The new vendor will most likely offer a lower salary than United Airlines. There is no guarantee that workers will be able to retain their jobs with the new vendors.
The airline has also cut jobs at 11 other airports around the country.
“This was a difficult decision, but we need to ensure that our costs are competitive,” said United spokesman Luke Punzenberger in a press release.
