DEARBORN — The tutoring company EduCare Student Services has started an affordable after school tutoring program for students in grades K-12. Sessions will begin Tuesday, Sept. 9 and will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. 6 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Dearborn Atrium Office Center located at 835 Mason St..
The program will focus on offering students assistance in homework support, test preparation and building skills in different areas. The program is only $150 a month and parents will only be charged $135 a month for the second child they enroll. Many tutoring companies charge double or even triple that amount for the same services.
The after school program is an additional service the tutoring company offers. EduCare Student Services also offers affordable one on one tutoring, a program that assists students with preparing for the ACT and also recently started a program focused on helping students with reading and math comprehension that is offered every Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
EduCare Student Services founder Hussein Hachem, who launched the company last year, said reading and math are the two biggest areas students struggle with.
The company also had a summer program that ended this month.
Students who received services from the company had a tremendous amount of success.
“We have so many success stories here,” Hachem said. “Basically I saw the struggle of students in our community. The success of any community and nation depends of the academic success of its children. That is why it is so important to help our kids succeed in school.”
Two of the company’s tutors are former Fordson High School students who were recently accepted to Harvard University. Hachem said all the tutors are highly qualified and must undergo a tough screening process before getting hired.
“We look at their academic grades and work experience, and if they meet our qualifications they are hired,” he said.
EduCare Student Services makes tutoring more affordable for college students and also helps foreign students who have immigrated to the country permanently or are just here temporarily for school.
Some of the services that the company offers international students include, but are not limited to, assistance with documents in the application process; finding cheap apartments and/or roommates from the same background; assisting students in the application for legal documents, such as social security numbers and driver’s licenses; along with other services.
Typically, the cost of tutors can run up to $60 or more per hour, preventing many students from even considering hiring one. EduCare Student Services’ hourly rates range from $11 to $16 an hour.
The company offers tutoring services for English, French, math, science, Arabic, chemistry, biology, trigonometry and physics, among other subjects.
