DETROIT — On Wednesday, Dearborn Heights resident Theodore Wafer was sentenced to 15-30 years in prison for the shooting death of 19-year-old Renisha McBride.
“One life is lost and another is ruined,” Hathaway said.
In court, Wafer said he would carry the guilt and sorrow forever. A minimum 17-year prison sentence was recommended by prosecutors.
Last month, Wafer, 55, was convicted of second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm charges in the Nov. 2 2013 death of McBride. Wafer told police he shot McBride with a shotgun when she banged on the front door of his home at 4:40 a.m., because he feared she was trying to break into his house.
