DETROIT — Courtney Brewis of Dearborn won the women’s race at the 37th annual Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon on Oct. 19. Brewis, who used to run track at Grand Valley State University, said the victory came as a surprise. The 23-year-old has considered competing in a marathon since high school. She also competed in the NCCA nationals, finishing eighth in the 10K.
Brewis’ father also participated in the marathon the same day.
