DEARBORN HEIGHTS — More than 100 people attended a fundraiser in support of Crestwood Board of Education candidate Zaineb Hussein on Thursday, Oct. 23.
During the event, Hussein’s supporters praised her passion for working with students and her qualifications for the position.
Those who spoke at the event included Wayne County Corporation Counsel Zenna Faraj Elhasan, attorney Hamid Soueidan and Democratic State Rep. David Knezek, who is running for state senate.
For years, Hussein has volunteered her time tutoring and counseling at-risk students for an after-school program in Dearborn Heights. She works for the Michigan Department of Human Services and previously worked for the city of Dearborn Heights’ Economic and Community Development Program.
Hussein is a board member of the League of Women Voters of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. She earned a master’s in counseling with a focus on education from Spring Arbor University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
In addition to Hussein, longtime Crestwood Board of Education member Colleen Krizanic and Sue Kaminsky are also running for the two open six-year seats on the board.
