DETROIT — Five new faces, including two women, will represent Michigan in the U.S. House of representative starting Jan. 3.
The retirement of the Dean of the House of Representatives, John Dingell (D), prompted his wife, Debbie Dingell, to run for his seat. She won her bid for Congress in the 12th District by a comfortable margin.
Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence (D) also ran successfully for Senatro-elect Gary Peters’ congressional seat. Peters is replacing retiring U.S. Senator Carl Levin.
Birmingham businessman John Moolenaar (R) will replace Congressman Dave Camp, who decided not to seek reelection.
Former State Senate majority leader Michael Bishop won the seat currently held by fellow Republican Mike Rogers. David Trott, also a Republican, will take the seat of Congressman Kerry Bentivolio from the 11th District after having defeated him in the primary.
