TAYLOR—Community activist Khodr Farhat recently collected donations for the Taylor based Penrickton Center for Blind Children. The center offers free services to children who are blind.
Farhat, who is in his twenties was born blind and moved to the United States from Lebanon in 2009. He has received several awards and recognitions for his community volunteer work, and feels strongly about giving back to the community.
“They go to school all day and they sleep at night in this center,” Farhat said. He hopes more people will consider donating to the center in order to enable it to continue improving the lives of blind children. Khodr says nearly everything at the center is donatedincluding food, toys, equipment, blankets among other items.
Khodr is a member of the Dearborn based Lebanese American Heritage Club’s Youth Leadership Committee (LAHC-YLC) and says the organization helped him reach out to children at the center and donate items. “We all worked together,” he said. Khodr and the group provided
blankets, toys, candy, cupcakes, juice, hand sanitizers along with other items to children at the center.
“I personally, fulfilled one child’s wish. He wanted a particular toy. He was so happy because I made it for him as a surprise,” Khodr said. For more information on how to donate to the center visitwww.penrickton.com.
