Police responded to Fairlane Mall to investigate a robbery that allegedly just
occurred in the parking lot, on Feb. 12, 2014
A jewelry
merchant, Yakov Aminov, reported to responding officers that he was just
assaulted and robbed by two unknown males. Aminov reported that he was carrying
nearly $500,000 in diamonds.
A lengthy subsequent
investigation took place and it was determined that the robbery never took
place. A warrant request was sent to the
Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and a felony charge was approved for Aminov
for False Report of A Felony.
This is an
offense punishable by up to four years in prison and carries a maximum fine of
$2,000. Aminov is still at large and a
felony warrant for his arrest is still outstanding.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald
Haddad staid making false police reports is a crime and can result in a
misuse of police resources.
“This type of reporting attacks the image and sense
of security for the entire community,” Haddad added. “These incidents will be investigated and prosecuted by the Dearborn
Police Department to the fullest extent of the law. Our detectives did an excellent job in
developing a suspect in this matter and obtaining an arrest warrant. We are asking for the public’s assistance to
locate this suspect, this suspect may currently be out of state.”
