WASHINGTON — Last week Representatives Keith Ellison (D-MINN), Steve Cohen (D-TN), and Maxine Waters (D-CA) authored a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner (OH-8), voicing their disapproval of his invitation to Israeli PM Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of Congress on March 3.
Media networks and political pundits from all sides of the political spectrum have decried this breach of protocol as brazen, reckless, and never before seen.
Civil rights groups are now asking residents to contact representatives to voice their disapproval as well. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the Arab American Institute (AAI) and the Coalition of Palestinian American Organizations are urging people to do three things: Sign on to the Ellison, Cohen and Waters letter to deliver a clear message to Speaker Boehner that he has overstepped his authority in an unconscionable manner; independently contact Speaker Boehner to demand that he rescind the invitation to Prime Minister Netanyahu and not attend if Speaker Boehner refuses to rescind or reschedule the speech.
In addition to calling and sending letters to your representatives and senators, please join a growing online campaign by sending a simple social media message to your Member of Congress, using the hashtag #SkiptheSpeech.
