DETROIT — The E. W. Scripps Company recently announced that Mike Murri will be the new vice-president and general manager of ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) and MY Network affiliate WMYD-TV20, the Scripps-owned television stations in the Detroit market. Murri is currently the station manager for WXYZ and WMYD.
With the merger of Scripps and Journal Communications, Ed Fernandez, the current WXYZ/WMYD vice president and general manager, will assume greater responsibilities in his role as divisional general manager for the E.W. Scripps Company, leading additional Scripps stations across the country.
Murri began his broadcasting career as an account executive at WJBK (TV 2) in Detroit. He was hired by WXYZ as an account executive in 1982 and was promoted to local sales manager in 1996. He was named director of sales in 2001, before becoming station manager in 2012.
“It’s a privilege to lead this great team of professionals at WXYZ and WMYD,” Murri said. “I know we all take tremendous pride in playing a critical role in the resurgence of our city.”
