DETROIT — Sam Yono, a Chaldean American businessman and community leader, was elected board president of the International Visitors Council of Metropolitan Detroit (IVC Detroit).
Yono has worked with the IVC for two years and previously served as vice president of the board.
He is the former chairman of the Chaldean Federation of America and Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers. He was also a trustee at Oakland Community College and a board member of New Detroit.
The IVC Detroit is a nonprofit organization that administers international exchange programs on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other organizations that have an interest in promoting international relations.
“We want to show international visitors the best of Detroit and what it has to offer,” said Yono.
As board president, Yono plans on getting more executives from the global business sector involved in the organization.
