DEARBORN — According to a report on thinkprogress.org, during the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee this month, author Steve Tarani said he has witnessed the alleged “no go zones” – areas where police cannot enter— while shadowing a friend who serves on the “Detroit Metro SWAT Police” on a drive in Dearborn.
Tarani claims cities across the country have enacted Sharia Law.
While discussing pulling up to one of the alleged Muslim-controlled areas Tarani allegedly said, “The street signs suddenly went from English to Arabic. There wasn’t a single English word on any shop or any street sign. And in fact, these little yellow signs were posted all along the edges.”
He also said his friend, named Jeremy, told him they don’t go “past this line” and that “it’s hazardous for our team if we go past this line.”
Similar false accusations have been made about Sharia Law existing in Dearborn in the past and proven wrong. The Arab American News contacted Tarani for a comment, but he did not respond as of press time.
On several occasions, Mayor Jack O’Reilly has responded to false claims that Sharia law exists in the city.
“Dearborn has never been, nor ever will be, under Sharia law,” he said. “We are governed by the U.S. Constitution, the Constitution of the State of Michigan and the City of Dearborn Charter.”
O’Reilly was responding to a satirical website called the National Report that intentionally made up an article for entertainment purposes in October.
In the response O’Reilly also said the city was named after a Revolutionary War hero.
“We have lost loyal Dearborn American military service personnel in every war this country has fought to protect the individual rights we are guaranteed through the U.S. Constitution,” O’Reilly said.
