ANN ARBOR — On Wednesday, University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh met with Muslim students who are upset over comments he made on Twitter about the controversial film “American Sniper.”
About 15 students attended the meeting along with U of M interim athletic director Jim Hackett and Vice President for Student Life Royster Harper.
In the tweet, Harbaugh wrote, “Michigan Football will watch ‘American Sniper’! Proud of Chris Kyle & Proud to be an American & if that offends anybody then so be it!”
Critics of the movie say the Clint Eastwood-directed film, which is based on the life story of Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in the history of the American military, depicts Iraqis as terrorists and compromises the safety of Arab and Muslim Americans.
