DETROIT – The local community was shocked to learn about the arrest of Dearborn resident Ali Nasser Alriashi, 31. the alleged serial rapist in connection to several cases in Detroit.
Following months of growing concerns that a serial rapist was targeting local women in the southwest region of the city, police were able to track down and arrest Alriashi after a victim helped identify him.
Dubbed as the “Detroit Serial Rapist,” Alriashi is believed to have been linked to several cases of sexual assaults and kidnappings in the last four months.
Alriashi’s 2004 Mercury Mountaineer also matched the description of the vehicle involved in some of the assaults.
Officers initiated a traffic stop at Livernois and Fort and while officers were stopping the vehicle, a 33-year-old female flagged them down and informed them that she had been sexually assaulted by Alriashi a month ago.
Police believe Alriashi sexually assaulted the 33-year-old woman at gunpoint some time in May on Jefferson and West End.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s office said Alriashi also assaulted and kidnapped another woman at gunpoint on May 25 at West End and Barnes.
Alriashi was arrested on Monday, June 8 for criminal sexual conduct and was and transported him to the Detroit Detention Center. On Tuesday, he was charged with criminal sexual conduct first degree, criminal sexual conduct third degree and kidnapping. He was given a $250,000, 10% bond.
Alriashi’s preliminary examination has been scheduled for 9 a.m., June 23 before Judge Kenneth King.
