ROMULUS — A 65-year-old man was arraigned on murder charges this week in to the death of his neighbor in Dearborn Heights.
Gary Earl Oliver is being charged with first degree murder and felony firearm after killing his neighbor, 60-year-old John Kennedy, Wednesday, June 3 on the 6400 block of Fairwood.
Police had received previous complaints from both men who lived on the same block for about 30 years.
According to a detective who spoke at the arraignment, Oliver believed Kennedy was picking his locks, taking his money and spraying water under the shingles, among many other complaints.
The detective said an ADT security technician was installing an alarm system on May 29 and June 2. According to the detective, Oliver told the technician he would “take matters into his own hands and to remember his name because he was going to see it on television.”
Oliver allegedly killed Kennedy the next day at close range. This occured after the detective said neighbors saw Oliver standing over Kennedy while the latter yelled, “no, no, no.”
Then, according to the detective, Oliver walked away when Kennedy wasn’t moving, but returned moments later, “kicked him, then shot him in the head”, before walking back into his home.
A judge has denied bond, stating he believes Oliver is a danger to society.
