DEARBORN— On June 30 at about
1:30 p.m., an unarmed robbery occurred at a bus stop near Michigan and
Gulley. The victim, a 27 year-old
Dearborn man, told police that he was at the bus stop when he was approached by
two young males. One of the men asked
the victim if he could use his cell phone.
The victim refused.
Shortly after, the man who requested the victim’s cell phone grabbed him from
behind and began choking him while the second suspect removed the victim’s cell
phone from his pocket. The two
assailants then ran eastbound on Michigan Avenue.
An alert passing motorist saw the robbery in progress
and notified two Dearborn Police officers who were conducting a traffic stop in
the area. They responded to the scene
and relayed a description of the perpetrators to other police units. Dearborn Police uniform and plain-clothes
officers then worked together to locate and arrest four subjects believed to
have been involved in the robbery.
Subsequent to the arrest, officers discovered a loaded handgun with an
obliterated serial number in a vehicle being used by the suspects.
Today, after a review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s
office, charges were recommended for one of those arrested. Bernard Looper, a 21 year-old Detroit man,
was arraigned on charges of Robbery Unarmed, carrying a concealed weapon, and
habitual offender 2nd and issued a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to
return to the 19th District Court for a preliminary exam on July 17. Cordell Wilson and Ashley Looper were arraigned
on charges of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property and scheduled to return
to the 19th District Court for pre-trial on August 14.
