Elhassan talked to WWJ’s Zahra Huber
TAYLOR–Fasting during
Ramadan can be especially difficult for restaurateurs who prepare and serve
food all day.
While fasting, Mahmoud
Elhassan, the co-owner of Peepo’s Subs and Shawarma, works over a hot stove for
hours, making subs and other dishes. Sometimes his shifts can be as long as
12-hours.
Elhassan said the purpose of the holy month
makes it easy to avoid breaking his fast. He said Ramadan is a time to think
about the less fortunate and those who don’t have access to food or water.
Doctors
urge those who are fasting and who perform manual labor to pay
attention to their health needs and their bodies’ signals and symptoms when
doing intensive work.
