DETROIT — Gas will prices will increase by up to 80 cents per gallon in the next few days, gas wholesalers told The Arab American News, citing reports of technical issues in a BP refinery in the Midwest.
Average gas prices in Michigan are already higher than the east coast. Crude oil prices have been falling steadily since last month; but with the shortcomings of the refinery, customers will be paying more at the pump.
“Everybody is accepting the prices to go down. This increase will affect everybody, especially people who drive big SUVs,” Allie Berry, the vice president of Armada Oil Company, said.
A gallon of gas spiked to $4.24 in June of 2013 in Michigan because of technical problems at Midwestern refineries.
