DETROIT — Officials have identified a suspect accused of planting an explosive that injured a man Sunday in a vacant field near a hidden marijuana patch.
The 28-year-old victim stepped on the bomb in a vacant field on the city’s west side, near Florida and Panama streets, Officer Dan Donakowski told The Detroit News.
“He was walking, heard some loud explosions and felt pain,” Donakowski said.
According to police, the man was hospitalized Sunday in temporary serious condition.
The suspect is accused of placing booby traps around his home to protect a large marijuana growing operation, Donakowski said.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reported that the suspect was cooperating with authorities.
“We are looking into it but no charges are filed at this time,” ATF spokesman Donald Dawkins said. “We’re working with Detroit police on the case.”
