LIVONIA – A Livonia man has been charged with felony murder and child abuse in the death of his 10-week-old child.

Livonia police responded to the report of an unresponsive infant child Monday, Sept. 21 on the 3800 block of Summers Street. Officers were told the 33-year-old father fell down a flight of stairs in the home while holding the baby, ClickOnDetroit reported. 

The child was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died from injuries the following day.

According to police, a medical assessment of the infant’s injuries and preliminary autopsy results show the infant was murdered.

The father, Mark Patrick Hontz, is charged with felony murder and first degree child abuse. He also faces a habitual offender charge. Hontz has been arraigned and is being held without bond. His preliminary examination is set for Oct. 15 in the 16th District Court in Livonia.
