“This event will provide important information and guidance necessary to apply for TPS.” -Congresswoman Dingell |
DEARBORN — U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Dearborn) will hold a community forum where she will answer questions about the Temporary Protected Status granted to Yemenis in the United States.
Community members are invited to the event, which will take place at UAW Local 600, 10550 Dix Ave., Dearborn, on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m.
TPS grants Yemenis who are on temporary basis in the United States the right to stay and apply for work authorization after their visas expire. However, it does not open a path to citizenship or permanent residency.
ACCESS will also hold a free legal advice workshop on TPS at its offices, 2651 Saulino Court, Dearborn, on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m.
For questions on the ACCESS workshop, call 313-945-8167. For more information on the Oct. 14 forum, call Dingell’s Dearborn office at:
313-278-2936.
“It is critical that those who may be eligible for TPS apply,” Dingell said in a statement. “This event will provide important information and guidance necessary to apply for TPS and provide an opportunity to discuss the next steps for the Yemeni community. This designation is critical for Yemeni nationals visiting this country whose return home during the ongoing violent conflict would put them at personal risk.”
