DEARBORN — The Arab American Political Action Committee will celebrate the political achievements of Arab Americans at its 18th annual Dinner at the Bint Jebail Culture Center, on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The organization, which aims to empower Arab Americans politically, will honor about 13 officials whom it endorsed and helped get elected.
Ali Hammoud, president of AAPAC, said there are no major electoral races this year, which gives the organization an opportunity to “step back” and applaud the political accomplishments of Arab Americans.
Hammoud said AAPAC has helped amplify Arab Americans’ voice in politics and make them a considerable voting power.
“The community has become a pillar for campaigns to come here and lobby us for our support,” he added. “This community counts.”
Hammoud added that the organization has contributed to increasing Arab Americans’ voter turnout, which has encouraged politicians to address the community’s issues.
Former State Senate Democratic leader Gretchen Whitmer will keynote the dinner.
