DEARBORN ― Lincoln Charter Township police arrested a man suspected to have sent an email early Monday morning threatening to shoot up Divine Child High School.
Police said they received the email through the city of Dearborn’s website directing them to “contact Divine Child High School about a school shooting today.”
A response plan was quickly coordinated and uniformed officers were at the campus while a criminal investigation was being conducted.
The email’s origin was traced to a residence in the west Michigan community of Lincoln Charter Township.
A man, whose identity is being withheld pending formal court hearings, was taken into custody on unrelated arrest warrants.
Dearborn police is continuing investigation and criminal charges are anticipated.
Chief Haddad said the students or faculty of the school were not at risk, despite the visible response of the police.
“While there is no information to believe that this was anything more than a threat we will spare no resource or effort to ensure the safety of our community,” Haddad said. “We will always err on the side of caution in these situations. I’d like to thank the Lincoln Township Police Department for their assistance in resolving this quickly.”
