DETROIT — Michigan has been voting Democrat in the presidential elections since 1992, but according to an EPIC MRA poll, Detroit native Dr. Ben Carson can defeat the leading Democratic candidates in 2016.
The survey of 600 people found that Michiganders would favor the Republican neurosurgeon over former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by 6 percent and over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by 9 percent.
Up to 19 percent of the voters are still undecided, according to the poll, which has a 4 percent margin of error.
Carson, who said he would not advocate for a Muslim president, has been closing the gap with Republican front runner Donald Trump. Some recent polls have even projected that he is in the lead.
The EPIC MRA’s survey says Trump would fare significantly worse than Carson in the general election. According to the poll, both Clinton and Sanders would win Michigan if their opponent is Trump.
The Arab American News publisher Osama Siblani will discuss the findings of the poll on WXYZ’s Spotlight on the News with Chuck Stokes. Siblani will be joined by Oakland County Republican Committee Chairman Paul Welday, Democratic political strategist Howard Edelson, Michigan Chronicle Editor Keith Owens and EPIC MRA president Bernie Porn.
The show will air on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m.
