DEARBORN – On Friday November 20, 2015, Anthony Jamal Sharay was arraigned by the Honorable Judge William Hultgren in the 19th District Court. Sharay was charged with Home Invasion 1st Degree, Assault with the Intent to Murder, Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
His bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety no 10%, he will be required to wear a GPS tether if he posts bond, relinquish passport and/or travel documents and no third party contact or contact with any persons involved with the case.
A probable cause hearing was set for December 4, 2015 at 9am in courtroom #1 and a preliminary exam was set for December 11, 2015 at 9am in courtroom #1.
Police arrested the 19-year-old resident Wednesday for holding a teenage boy at knife point with a pair of scissors to his neck.
The victim’s brother called the police after arriving home, at 5000 block of Williamson, and finding his 15-year-old sibling held hostage by and unknown male.
Officers observed a significant amount of blood on Sharay’s hands, but were uncertain as to who was injured, so they began an immediate dialogue with the suspect.
Police were able to verbally de-escalate the situation, and they talked the suspect into releasing the teen who was unharmed. The officers continued to negotiate with Sharay and convinced him into surrendering peacefully.
He was then taken into custody, and it was determined that he had a self-inflicted laceration which was the cause of the blood on his hands. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad praised the way police handled the situation.
“The officers responded quickly and utilized their training to de-escalate a life threatening situation,” Haddad said. “The fact that this came to a peaceful resolution is a testimony to their professionalism and their commitment to protecting the public.”
