DEARBORN — A 57-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was struck by a vehicle while walking across Michigan Avenue to catch an eastbound bus.
The driver of the vehicle, 47, of Woodhaven, was eastbound and crossing through a green light at Outer Drive when she hit the pedestrian. The accident happened at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24.
The pedestrian was transported to Beaumont Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Dearborn Police Department has not yet released the victim’s name.
Dearborn Police Accident Reconstructionist are investigating the accident, and the preliminary investigation reveals alcohol may have been a factor.
“This is a tragic situation and our condolences go out the families involved,” said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad. “With that being said, I cannot stress the importance of obeying traffic safety laws, statistics have shown compliance to traffic safety laws will mitigate these types of situations.”
This is the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian in Dearborn this year.
