The Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC) and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan released findings that show Michigan is the safest state to have a prostate biopsy. Using the unique Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI) model, they reduced the post-biopsy infection rate in Michigan to 0.6%. The national average is between 2 and 4 percent.
Physicians and hospitals across the state use the CQI model to improve clinical or surgical areas of care. The model has saved nearly $800 million in medical costs in five other clinical initiatives, according to Blue Cross Blue Shield.
