DEARBORN
– DuVall Elementary School will be holding a Pancake Dinner to benefit
6-year-old student Lexys Lamp who lost her battle to cancer on Monday, November
23.
The
young girl was diagnosed with DIPG, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. Her tumor
was cancerous and could not be removed because it was located in her brain
stem.
The
same week, 5-year-old Chad Carr from Saline also lost his battle to the same
diagnosis. Carr’s condition was thrust into the spotlight after Michigan
Football coach Jim Harbaugh recognized him. The family received an outpour of
support from football fans.
The
Carr family shared their emotional journey in hopes of raising awareness of
pediatric cancer and raising funds for research.
The
Lamp family also shared their emotional journey with the local community, holding
fund raisers to help them cover medical expenses and threw a special princess
birthday party this past summer to make Lexys birthday a very special day.
According
to DuVall Elementary, The Lamp family is struggling financially and is in dire
need of help. Parents and faculty are once again embracing their neighbor and
coming together to help the Lamp family during this difficult period.
In
addition, the DuVall community is continuing the Adopt-A-Family outreach
as a way to support Lexys’ family. They will accept wrapped gifts in
the DuVall School office through December 4th.
Lexys
left behind a 6 year old cousin, Arianna, who she called her sister. As a
school community, DuVall is working to make Arianna’s and the Lamp family
