STERLING HEIGHTS― A Meijer store was evacuated on Monday evening after a customer
made a threat referencing ISIS.
Local media outlets reported that the man got into an argument with an employee at the customer
service desk about a return and then threw a backpack behind the counter. He said, “Have you ever heard of ISIS?”
The man reportedly
fled the store, leaving the backpack inside and is still at large.
The store re-opened
at about 8:30 p.m.
According to WXYZ, the man had bought a backpack from the store and left the one he owned on a
bench outside. A Meijer worker brought the bag inside to the lost-and-found,
and a misunderstanding ensued.
Police discovered that the backpack was just
full was papers.
