CALIFORNIA  — A Castro Valley woman on Tuesday was banned from her local park and ordered to have no contact with the man she is accused of throwing coffee at during an anti-Muslim rant that went viral on the Internet.

“I want an no contact order from their side too,” Denise Slader could be heard saying in a courthouse hallway, while talking to her attorney before her arraignment on misdemeanor battery and hate crime charges. She told her attorney she has been the victim of harassment since video of her making an anti-Muslim rant and then throwing coffee in the face of the man recording her at Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley on Dec. 6 went viral on the Internet.

Neither Slader, 50, nor the representative of the attorney she’s hired, Robert Beles, would comment on Tuesday after her first court appearance in the case. Beles could not be reached Tuesday.

Slader has worked for 10 years as a program technician in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s adult parole operations division. The agency has declined to comment on her current job status.

Judge Jeffrey Brand ordered that Slader have no contact with Rasheed Albeshaeri, the man she threw coffee on after a park ranger interrupted her anti-Muslim rant and told her it was inappropriate.

“The people you tortured, they’re going to spend eternity in Heaven,” Slader says in the video. “You are very deceived by Satan. Your mind has been taken over — brainwashed — and you have nothing but hate. Nothing but hate.”

Albeshaeri said he started recording Slader with his cell phone shortly after she confronted him and some friends, who had been praying at the park.

Brand also ordered Slader to stay away from Chabot Regional Park. She appeared in court without any supporters. No one attended the hearing on behalf of the victim.

Slader was ordered to return to court on Jan. 7 to enter a plea. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is going to ask at that bail be set for Slader at that hearing. She has never been jailed related to the current charges.
