DEARBORN— People with questions about Islam can join Muslims and non-Muslims for an informal question and answer forum at the Islamic House of Wisdom (IHW) on Sunday morning.
In response to recent attacks by extremists, the IHW is holding an open discussion so that people of all or no faith can better understand Islam and how Muslims live.
The gathering, which begins at 10 a.m., will be the center’s first, although it has held interfaith dialogues and debates between religious leaders in the past.
Steven Urenda, an interfaith activist who will host the event, said the social gathering aims to give people “a chance to come and express themselves or learn some things without some agenda or political rhetoric driving it. It’s just a chance to be regular people.”
He added that the community participates in many protests and debates – which are important – but not in intermixing at the grassroots level.
The IHW reminds attendees that the event is not a debate, but a chance for people to have conversations and better understand one another, while enjoying a complimentary breakfast.
