The Bronx — Two New York City teenagers have been arrested for viciously attacking a man while shouting “ISIS, ISIS.”
Mujibur Rahman, 43, a Bangladeshi Muslim, who was wearing traditional Muslim attire, was picking up his 9-year-old niece from school around 5:30 p.m. Friday, when the two suspects attacked him.
They punched him in the head and knocked him onto the ground where they kicked him several times, police said.
The two teens, whose identities have not been released due to their age, are 14 and 15-year-old and charged with a slew of hate crimes.
The 14-year-old has been charged with assault and harassment, and the 15-year-old has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, aggravated harassment, harassment and acting in a manor injurous to a child.
The NYPD has launched its own hate crime investigation.
Rahman was taken to Jacobi Hospital to be treated for bruising to his head and face, cops said.
Days after the attack, the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), called on the FBI to join the hate crime investigation of an attack on a Muslim man by assailants reportedly shouting “ISIS” during the beating.
