DEARBORN HEIGHTS – A Middle School in Dearborn Heights sent out a letter on Jan. 25 to parents regarding an incident involving students consuming marijuana in the bathroom.
According to both parents and students, 8th graders were consuming edible marijuana in the form of Rice Krispie Treats/Brownies in the school bathroom. One of the students fell ill after eating the marijuana and began vomiting.
The Arab American News contacted both Riverside Middle School and the Dearborn Heights Police Department for further information, but at press time calls have not been returned.
According to the letter sent out by the school, the students were identified and suspended. The letter didn’t go into detail regarding how many students were involved or where the marijuana was obtained. The Dearborn Heights Police Department was notified of the incident.
Parents received the following letter from Riverside Middle School:
Dear parents, this letter is to inform you of an incident that took place at Riverside Middle School on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016.
During passing time on Friday, several of our Middle School students were found to have been consuming marijuana in the bathroom. Based on our investigation which was completed this morning, we assure you that all of the students involved were identified and suspended. The Dearborn Heights Police Department was notified, responded and aware of our progress in handling this situation.
Thank you for your continued support of our school.
According to parents who contacted The Arab American News, student have been consumed pot during school hours at Riverside in the past.
A parent of two students at the school said his kids had notified him of students who were smoking pot at the beginning of the school year. The parent said he notified the administration about the incident, but no further action was taken.
Students have also complained that the auditorium and school buses have reeked of a marijuana smell as well.
