On Wednesday, the Rasmea Defense Committee launched a social campaign in support of Rasmea Odeh, the Palestinian American activist who was convicted of immigration fraud.
Odeh’s supporters say her prosecution was politically motivated and are trying to raise awareness about the case, as the court considers her appeal.
Users posted messages of support under #Justice4Rasmea. It became of the top trending hashtags on social media. The campaign garnered thousands of tweets and Facebook posts.
Activists shared articles praising Odeh and questioning her conviction.
Odeh was indicted for failing to disclose being imprisoned in Israel on her naturalization application. She says her trial in Israel was based on a false confession forced by torture and sexual assault.
“@Israel tortures & sexually assaults Palestinians as means to facilitate colonization of #Palestine #Justice4Rasmea,” tweeted Anna Baltzer.
