DEARBORN — Mona Hammoud, of Dearborn, has been appointed to the Wayne County Ethics Board by the Wayne County Commission.
Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak, D-Dearborn, nominated Hammoud for the appointment, which was approved by the Commission at its Feb. 18 meeting.
Hammoud is a vice president for PNC bank, where she has worked since 2003. She holds an MBA degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Also, Hammoud is a former president of the League of Women of Voters Dearborn-Dearborn Heights, and is active in Child Safe Michigan and the Arab American Women Business Council.
She is the wife of U.S. Assistant Attorney Abed Hammoud.
“Mona Hammoud will be a strong addition to the Wayne County Ethics Board,” Woronchak said. “Her integrity and her involvement in community organizations indicate to me that she will serve the residents of the county well on the board.”
The Ethics Board is the enforcement arm of the county’s ethics ordinance, established to receive and consider complaints filed for possible violations of the regulations. The board has seven appointed members, one each for the county executive, sheriff, prosecutor, treasurer, clerk and register of deeds, and one for the Wayne County Commission.
The ethics ordinance was the product of a task force established by Woronchak to set into law standards of conduct and to define ethical behavior for county officials, employees and vendors. It was adopted by the Commission in 2012.
Ethics Board members serve terms of four years. Hammoud replaces Glenn S. Anderson as the Commission’s appointment on the board for a term ending Dec. 31, 2018. Anderson was appointed in January to fill a vacancy on the Wayne County Commission, and thus could no longer serve on the Ethics Board.
