DEARBORN — A missing Dearborn man’s body was discovered last week near the Detroit River after authorities had been searching for him for more than two months.
Sajjad Almayali, 24, went missing on January 5 after he was last seen at Belle Isle Park. A day later, his family discovered that he had parked his vehicle there. Almayali would routinely go to the park to run.
Following an extensive search of Belle Isle and the Detroit River, authorities found no traces of Almayali.
The Arab American News was not able to confirm the cause of his death. Michigan State Police said his name was not in their system, while Dearborn Police were unable to return our calls at press time.
Almayali’s brother Dhiya posted a message on social media confirming his death.
“He had all of the traits of a good person,” Almayali said. “He was spiritual, smart, kind, confident and most importantly funny. He had a sense of humor that would light up a room.”
In the weeks following his disappearance, the family told The Arab American News that Almayali had stopped taking his medication for a diagnosed bipolar disorder.
On March 14, Almayali was buried at the Islamic Cemetery on Ann Arbor Trail.
