DETROIT – The biggest movie of 2016 has arrived, and all throughout the film are Detroit landmarks and thousands of Michigan actors.
The $250 million budget blockbuster extravaganza starring Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, was shot in Detroit during the summer of 2014.
Local residents who watch the film will be sure to spot famous landmarks and background actors who live in Michigan.
The superhero epic hired many local actors and about 3,000 extras for scenes involving everything from parties to protests.
Radio personality Jay Towers, the host of “Jay Towers in the Morning” on WNIC-FM (100.3) also plays a role in the 2 hour and 30 minute film.
Towers plays a TV reporter for fictional News 8 in the movie. You can spot him in a scene at the Daily Planet offices where Lois Lane (Adams) and Clark Kent (Cavill) are among those watching his TV report on an incident in Metropolis.
Towers has told reporters that he was a die-hard Superman fan since he was a child, and to have a part in the film was an honor.
Senator Debbie Stabenow also makes a cameo as a Governor in the film.
Stabenow has a cameo in a party scene that unfolds at a Lex Luthor fund-raiser. As the eccentric Luthor rambles through some remarks, there is a close-up of Stabenow along with a quick witted line.
The senator said “Batman v Superman” initially reached out to her because of her interest in the production process and the economic impact of filmmaking in the state.
Invited to see the work in progress at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac, she brought along two of her grandchildren and watched the shooting of a scene involving young Bruce Wayne.
Stabenow said she appeared in the film because she supported the Michigan Film Incentive, which was eliminated last year by Republican Governor Rick Snyder.
The film also features a scene at Michigan State University.
