DEARBORN – TKE-Rho Tau’s
resolution for the New Year was to make a noticeable difference in the
community.
That’s why the fraternity is looking to raise funds for the
Dearborn Police Department Explorers Post 1177.
The Dearborn Explorers Program is a community service based
group established in 1967 and is open to young men and women between the ages
of 14 and 21.
Cadets in the program are given the opportunity to experience
similar training that sworn-in police officers undergo such as firearm
training, defensive tactics, situation training, report writing, and leadership
skills. Currently, the Explorers Program has twenty-five cadets enrolled and
receiving training.
Every two years, the Explorers hold the National Explorer
Training Conference, which consists of one week of competitions, seminars, and
exhibits with the overall goal of training each cadet individually to be the
highest quality law enforcement officers they can.
The conference is held in Flagstaff, Arizona and costs each
cadet or advisor $1000, which includes the cost of registration, airfare,
vehicle rental, hotel, food, and incidentals.
To
combat this cost, the frat came up with the idea to host a Black Tie Event
Fundraiser this Friday, March 25th: “Brothers for Blues.”
It
includes silent auctions, speeches from brothers in the Fraternity, a
presentation from the Explorers post, a speech from our Keynote speaker Kevin
Williams, and will also be blessed by the jazz stylings of Adam Dib throughout
the entire event.
Rho
Tau’s ultimate goal is to raise money to send as many of the Explorers as
possible to their national conference.
“After
recent events involving the department, we will show the community that a group
of young, hardworking, men, as well as the general youth of the city of
Dearborn still support the police department,” the frat said.
