ARBOR – Anti-Muslim graffiti was discovered on the campus of the University of
Michigan on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
A
group of Arab-American students contacted the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee Michigan Regional Office (ADC-Michigan) after the hate graffiti was discovered
on the campus.
The
students raised concerns about racist symbols and phrases found on campus,
including some labeled “#stopIslam.”
Other graffiti found across campus convey support for Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump, with messages such as “Trump 2016” and “Build The Wall” splattered on campus property.
The
ADC-Mi said it has contacted University of Michigan officials and is waiting
for a response.
ADC-Mi
Director Attorney Fatina Abdrabboh said that Muslim students on campus are
concerned about their safety.
“We
will defend against the intimidation of our students everywhere,” Abdrabboh
said. “We expect university officials to
take proactive measures to ensure safe spaces for our community’s students in
these heightened times of Islamophobia and anti-Arab sentiment.”
