DEARBORN — A Dearborn man was sentenced to two years of probation for assaulting a former friend at a barber shop over a personal dispute.
Rabih Hamdan had pleaded no contest to the incident that took place last May. He was also ordered to four days of community service and an anger management class.
Judge William Hultgren told Hamdan that his probation could be reduced to one year if he complies with the terms of his sentencing.
Abed Kobeisi, the victim, told the judge that he spent five hours in the hospital after the incident.
Hamdan’s lawyer said his client is a family man who owns businesses and is involved in the community.
“He is not a mafia boss or gangster like he is being portrayed,” the lawyer said of Hamdan.
Two other people who were involved in the incident were charged with six months probation.
The judge said what weighed heavily on the sentence is that Hamdan entered the barber shop and started the confrontation.
