ENGLAND – Queen Elizabeth II will have love in her tummy,
courtesy of British reality show “The Great British Bake Off’s” first
Muslim winner Nadiya Hussain.
The Queen turned 90 on Thursday, April 21. In honor of her
big birthday, the Royal family asked Nadiya to not only cook the
longest-reigning (63 years to be exact) monarch’s birthday meal, but to bake
her a cake for the happy occasion, as well.
Hussain baked an orange drizzle cake, with orange curd and
orange butter cream, for her Majesty, instead of the traditional fruit
cake.
Hussain personally presented the Queen with her cake at an event
in Windsor’s town hall. Prior to the event, Nadiya told her online followers
she was “so nervous, I can’t even look at the oven”.
Hussain won the BBC TV contest in November 2015. She was a
self-taught home baker prior to her rise to prominence.
The move is comes at a time when anti-Islamic sentiments reached
an all time high in Europe, following the Paris attacks claimed by ISIS last
October.
The
Queen will be keeping her birthday celebrations low-key; she’s saving the big
stuff for her more birthday celebrations in June.
